Weak / 2
Well, I have to say that I am not prejudiced against Gary playing blues. But this record is not that great. Frankly, none of the covers does add anything to the originals - You upset me baby sounds raped - Gary has a voice too rough to sing it. The same goes for his guitar tone on this one and also to Stormy Monday, which is simply butchered. If you want to hear a good white man version of it, check the one Eric Clapton plays on the Cream reunions. And also, there is no way Gary would surpass the versions of Yardbirds, Aerosmith or Animals. Looking back is a good version, but still it adds just a litle to the original. The three! ballads - one instrumental and two sung are stale beyond words. The rating is as high because there are some numbers which are done in the vein like his best blues record Power of the blues, namely Enough of the blues , Cold Black night and How many more lies combine hard rock energy and force with bluesy flavour and actually have a vibe to them unlike most of the tracks on this record.
Song "Trust Your Lovin’"
I trust your lovin', (trust your lovin')
it's so good to me. (trust your lovin')
I trust your lovin', baby.
I've got your love (trust your lovin')
to keep me warm at night. (trust your lovin')
And lord, I know you'll never leave me lonely.
And when the cold wind blows,
I know that you, you always,
always will be around.
I've got you for eternity,
nothing can seperate you from me.
I trust your lovin'.
I trust your lovin'.
I trust your lovin'.
It's so good to me.
Oh no, your love is my life.
And darling, I need you by my side.
With you I feel no change,
still I'm always in your power.
And when the cold wind blows,
I know that you, you always,
always will be around.
I've got you for eternity,
nothing can seperate you from me.
I trust your lovin'.
I trust your lovin'.
I trust your lovin'.
It's so good to me.
Oh no, no darlin'.
I need you baby, yeah.
Yeah-yeah, no.
I've got you for eternity,
nothing can seperate you from me.
I trust your lovin'.
I trust your lovin'.
I trust your lovin'.
It's so good to me.
I trust your lovin'.
I trust your lovin'.
I trust your lovin'.
I trust your lovin'.
I trust your lovin'.
I trust your lovin'.
Well, I trust your love.
I trust your lovin'.

CD Reviews (Greenwich Time)
Bay Area guitarist Bernard exists in the murky territory between the jazz and jam-band worlds. It's a space that has historically resulted in serious musicians doing little more than playing repetitive funk riffs.

Music Review: Essentially John Mayall (Blogcritics.org)
John Mayall's inestimable influence on the evolution of British blues stems more from his talents as a bandleader than from his own talents as a musician. While he's a very gifted instrumentalist, particularly on blues harp, and an adequate vocalist, it's his unerring ear for recognizing raw talent that's made John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, in all its incarnations, the legend that it is today. ...
