"Maintaining My Cool" actually contains most of The Sonics' lone album for Jerden records, "Introducing The Sonics" minus a couple of cuts that Jerden later put out on their "Fire & Ice: Lost Tapes" collection. Actually, it's not bad, decent mid 60's garage rock, but by the time they recorded for Jerden, The Sonics had lost some of the manic punk rawness that makes their Etiquette Records recordings so essential. In fact, the two leased Etiquette tracks, the immortal "The Witch" and "Psycho" make the rest of the disc sound weak and pale, and Gerry Roslie's demonic Little Richard inspired vocals are reduced to a mere sneer here.. Still, "You've Got Your Head On Backwards" and "Maintaining My Cool" are fun garage rock songs worth hearing. Just make sure you've heard "Here Are The Sonics" and "Boom" first.

Music Review: The Gories - I Know You Fine But How You Doin' (Blogcritics.org)
One of the great (and lesser known) musical travesties is that The Gories ? the best bass-less garage band to ever come out of Detroit and maybe anywhere ? have been critically buried by a clownish, image-obsessed, meticulously-managed duo who mainly sound like a neutered Led Zeppelin. They also eschew the bass-guitar and have a girl drummer. I will not name them, but you must know which ...

CDs: Fall Out Boy, Malarkies, Born in the Flood & Bloc Party (El Paso Times)
On this record's lead single "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race," Fall Out Boy proves the band hasn't forgotten how to make people dance. But what's so cool about the song is its influences: Roxy Music. Scissor Sisters. David Bowie, to an extent.
