One of their best / 5
When I put this CD in I was already making plans to edit it down to one 45 minute side of a cassette(for my car stereo). No way all 13 tracks will be all great, right? Wrong! All songs on this CD are excellent. Geddy's voice is surprisingly easy to listen to compared to other albums. The songs are rocking, lyrics are great, drumming solid . Peart focuses on groove rather than huge drum fills. Leifson plays what the song requires and does not indulge in egocentric virtuosity. I don't believe there are any guitar solos. The production is ambient and layered. I have read complaints about the sound level. Yes it is loud, guess what? TURN IT DOWN AND LISTEN. This is Rush playing strictly solid hard rock. It's a shame this album did not receive a push by the industry, it deserved it. Instead we have to suffer with crap bands like shi# triscuit and (pick the)Korn (out of my shi#). This Rush's best since Power Windows.
Song "Beneath Between And Behind"
Words by neil peart, music by alex lifeson

Ten score years ago, defeat the kingly foe
A wondrous dream came into being
Tame the trackless waste, no virgin land left chaste
All shining eyes, but never seeing

Beneath the noble birth
Between the proudest words
Behind the beauty, cracks appear
Once, with heads held high
They sang out to the sky
Why do their shadows bow in fear?

Watch the cities rise
Another ship arrives
Earth’s melting pot and ever growing
Fantastic dreams come true
Inventing something new
The greatest minds, and never knowing...

The guns replace the plow, facades are tarnished now
The principles have been betrayed
The dreams’s gone stale, but still, let hope prevail
History’s debt won’t be repaid
