Only those with closed minds accuse Hybrid Theory of such treachery to the world of Nu-Metal. Hybrid Theory brings together tight, catchy guitar riffs and the absolutely fabulous vocals of Chester Bennington to create one of the new millennium's most addictive albums. With the exception of maybe Nevermind, I do not think I have ever heard a better first five songs off of any album in the history of music. Don't get me wrong; there a certainly singles and 1-2 combos within other albums better than `Papercut' through `Crawling,' but nowhere else in music, save Nevermind, has there even been a more consistent utterly addictive opening first five songs. The juxtaposition of `By Myself,' earthshaking and head-banging, to `In the End,' the most nostalgic moment on the album, simply amazes one's eardrums. More of that same amazement can be felt in your ears upon listening to the extreme rocker `Forgotten' and the more-of-the-same-good-stuff `Runaway.' Containing only one or two filler tracks at the end of the album and some of the greatest singles of the current decade, Hybrid Theory is too consistent and too enjoyable for any criticism. My vote for the best album of 2000, although The Sickness makes a strong bid.
