at least one of these disks is always near my cd player / 5
I have had this box set since 1994 and still take great joy in it. Some of what's here Janis did better elsewhere, it's true. I'd have to agree, for example, with many of the above remarks on "summertime". The fact is, though, that even this version of rates as one of my favorite, because nobody does it like Janis. There is genunine emotion in this version of the song.

There's a bit of everything here, and a few gems besides. The acoustic version of "Bobby McGee" is amazing, and listening to Janis talk and laugh (excuse me, cackle) and crack jokes between takes is a real treat.
Song "Mercedes Benz"
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a color TV ?
Dialing For Dollars is trying to find me.
I wait for delivery each day until three,
So oh Lord, won’t you buy me a color TV ?

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a night on the town ?
I’m counting on you, Lord, please don’t let me down.
Prove that you love me and buy the next round,
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a night on the town ?

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends,
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?

That’s it!

Another piece of her heart is presented in play (Kansas City Star)
Janis Joplin made her mark by giving 100 percent every time she took the microphone. The Texas blues singer who burst out of San Francisco in 1967 with Big Brother and the Holding Company didn?t just sing songs. She created raw, metallic arias that rose and fell in performances that qualified as high theater.

Gurley was an important part of San Francisco's rock scene even before teaming with Joplin. Rock 'n' roll and folk acts generally played coffee houses or variety shows before several West Coast promoters converted ballrooms into large venues for rock 'n' roll dances in the early '60s.
