New recordings of brilliant eighties hits / 5
T G started out as a singer in the sixties but abandoned that career to take a job as a record plugger. Some years later, he came across a song that he thought would be a hit but nobody was interested. He therefore recorded it himself. That song, Devil in a bottle, provided T G with the first of a long string of hits spread of several years. Despite his success, there have been very few CD releases so this collection of re-recorded hits is most welcome. If you object to re-recordings on principle, there is nothing I can say to you to change your mind. While they do not quite match up to the originals, they are extremely well done and some of the originals are not currently available.T G did not re-record any duets, so Faking love, Make my day and Home are not here. However, there are twenty other songs here, all of which were huge country hits for him. A few crossed over into the American pop charts. My favorite song here is Do you wanna go to heaven, a song which cleverly plays on different meanings of the title, but I also particularly enjoy Last cheater's waltz, Smooth sailing, War is hell on the home front too, Slow burn and Somewhere down the line - but these are just a few of the great songs here. To quote another of the song titles here, I loved them every one.
Song "Doncha?"
What's the point in this denyin'
I can read through all your lies
Say you don't care enough for cryin'
But those ain't raindrops in your eyes
You'll miss me woncha
My memory will hauntcha
Cause you love me,
D-d-d-d-d-d-d-doncha
I know you're tryin' not to show it
You look away, look away, into the night
But girl, a guy like me just knows it
When you squeeze my hand just a little too tight
You'll miss me, woncha
My memory will hauntcha
Cause you love me,
D-d-d-d-d-d-d-doncha
Well-a well-a well-a,
I never should have called you
Called you pretty baby
Never should have called you back
We never should have danced that slow dance
Romance starts like that
Well-a well-a well-a,
I should have seen the signs all the time comin' on
Cut it off before it got this far
But don't blame me
All I ever really wanted
Was take you for a ride in my car
I should have felt the way you missed me
And your hungry fingertips
I should have known it when you kissed me
It was more than lips on lips
You'll miss me, woncha
My memory will hauntcha
Cause you love me,
D-d-d-d-d-d-d-doncha
Well-a well-a well-a,
I never should have called you
Called you pretty baby
Never should have called you back
We never should have danced that slow dance
Romance starts like that
Well-a well-a well-a,
I should have seen the signs all the time comin' on
Cut it off before it got this far
But don't blame me
All I ever really wanted
Was take you for a ride in my car
I may have whispered that "I love you"
But I never said I wouldn't need you
Cause there's a lot I guess I told you
With the heat of passion up my sleeve
You'll miss me, woncha
My memory will hauntcha
Cause you love me,
D-d-d-d-d-d-d-doncha
You'll miss me, woncha
My memory will hauntcha
Cause you love me,
D-d-d-d-d-d-d-doncha
D-d-d-d-d-d-d-doncha
D-d-d-d-d-d-d-doncha
D-d-d-d-d-d-d-doncha
