Sonicflood "Gold". / 5
Sonicflood has become one of Modern Worship's best known bands ever since the overnight success of their self-titled debut disc in 1999. Since the release of that album, Worship music has exploded with an abundance. Also, unfortuately, the runaway success of Sonicflood's debut was a key factor in the original band line-up splitting apart. Although Sonicflood continues to exsist with a completely different line-up (the band now currently entering on its third configuration), all of its original members have since moved onto new ventures.
The "Gold" CD proudly reissues the original line-up's two albums (the self-titled debut and its live follow-up "Sonicpraise") as well as adding previously unreleased material. This set will most likely appeal to those who have not purchased these albums already. While the original artwork is not reproduced inside "Gold's" CD booklet, former Sonicflood leader Jeff Deyo does provide new liner notes with a heartfelt reminisance on his days as a member of the band and its beginnings.
For one that already owns the first two Sonicflood CD's, "Gold" passes off merely just as a collectors piece. However, for those who don't own them, this is essential as it packages these albums together with bonus material and a price tag of a single CD.
Despite the marketing strategy behind "Gold", one can't deny that it does contain some great music - some of the very best Modern Worship that's out there.

Song "Love Of My Life"

You know me very well
more than I know myself
You know the frailness of my frame
and still You show Your love
in measures deep and wide
the kindness of a king who saves
lead me onward towards the cross
I give myself to You
that I may know You more
You’re the love of my life
You’re the arms open wide
I know Your presence is here in this place
Lord I surrender all that I am
to the love of my life

knowing my heart would fail
You made a way for me
You died to set this captive free
in this You’ve shown Your love
within my darkest hour
that’s why my prayer will always be

Believe it or not, there was a day in the not too distant past when bands and solo artists would use the United States Postal Service to send newsletters to their fans. What a difference a decade makes.
