Glad to hear you're back, guys.
The story about "growing up" in Stockbridge is all too painfully true. A fundy town to be sure. In those days it was rife with bible-thumpers, KKK fanatics and rednecks combined with very decent hard-working folks. I lived on Stockbridge's south side and graduated in 1983. I'm one who made the change from "fundy life" in the hardcore Southern Baptist scene, having been a veteran of Mt. Vernon, back to public school. Long live SHS !!!
Indeed we kids WERE NOT allowed to listen to rock music in this ultra churchaholic town, which was defined as any "music" having a 2/4 beat, called "adapest" (sp?), because it was believed to screw-up one's heart rhythms, and condemn one's soul straight to hell. At Mt. Vernon, all the school band (I was the first-chair sax player) played were symphonies and college march songs....blecch ! I was re-introduced to rock, specifically the heavy metal scene, once I was safely out of the "fundy factory". In effect, rock saved my life...one could say.
